SAFE WORKING PROCEDURE FOR SANDBLASTING
This standard establishes the project requirements for safe sandblasting/shot blasting using a compressor during operation.
SCOPE- This standard applies whenever sandblasting/shot blasting work is required to remove paint from surfaces using a shot blaster powered by air from a mobile compressor.
RESPONSIBILITIES- The supervisor is responsible for the implementation of this HS&E standard and that it is verified by regular audits.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS-
Compressor and shot blasting pot must comply with the manufactures specifications.
Inspect daily the general condition of the compressor, hoses and shot blasting pot before operation.
Ensure that the oil level of the compressor is checked in the morning before use and at regular intervals during the day. Check for visible oil/fuel leaks.
Ensure that air hoses are in a good condition and not perished.
Ensure that all coupling clamps are tight.
To reduce or prevent injury or harm to persons/people, no unauthorized people should be permitted in the vicinity of operations.
Ensure that the exhaust system of the compressor is in sound condition and directed away from people.
Hose/s should be routed not to obstruct walkways or be damaged by other activities.
Any place which may constitute a particular danger to people, must be barricaded in an approved manner, pending the removal of the hazard.
